Ahh cereal…the tried and true breakfast food passed down from generation to generation. At least in my family 🙂
If you or your kids follow a gluten free diet, whether because of gluten intolerance or celiac disease, finding a handful of yummy breakfast cereals will definitely make life easier!
In this article, we will take a look at the beloved “kid-tested, parent-approved” Kix.
Growing up Berry Berry Kix was one of my favorite cereals so I was excited to learn that, as of 2022, Kix is gluten free – made mostly from corn and rice (see ingredient label below)!
It is not, however, labeled “certified gluten free” on the box.
Why is this you may ask?
Well, usually this is because the cereal (or whatever food products you’re talking about) is produced in a facility that processes wheat products as well. This means it is possible for the cereal to be contaminated with small amounts of wheat and it is impossible to 100% prevent this from happening.
Are Original Kix Gluten Free?
Yes! Kix original cereal is gluten free as of 2022. From the General Mills website, “Proving that less is more since 1937. Original Kix stays true to the 70-year-old recipe of wholesome grains like whole-grain corn. Generations later, kids still love it and parents still approve.”
Ingredients include whole grain corn, corn meal, sugar, salt, brown sugar syrup, baking soda, vitamin e, as well as vitamin C, A, folic acid, and other vitamins and minerals to preserve freshness.

Making Healthy Choices When it Comes to Breakfast Cereal
Just because a cereal doesn’t contain gluten, that doesn’t automatically make it a healthy breakfast choice.
So how does Kix stand up to the health test?
Well, it’s good news according to Greatist, Kix cereal is a good source of fiber (3 grams per 1.5 cup serving), has 3 grams of protein, and is also low in sugar and calories.
The Take Away
There you have it! It’s nice to know there are options when it comes to following a gluten free lifestyle and that, as of 2022, all three different types of Kix cereal are gluten free. So go ahead and stock up – breakfast just got a whole lot easier (and tastier)! 🙂
