Calling all gluten-free foodies and custard connoisseurs! Today, we’re about to embark on a delectable adventure into the world of frozen treats. Our mission? To uncover the tantalizing truth behind the burning question: Is Culver’s custard gluten-free?
If you’re someone who follows a gluten-free diet or has a sensitivity to gluten, then you’re in for a mouthwatering conversation. Let’s dive into this creamy, fun-filled exploration!

Culver’s is a popular fast-food chain known for its scrumptious ButterBurgers and, of course, its creamy custard (which is like a very creamy ice cream). They are actually one of my favorite gluten-free, fast-food restaurant chains thanks to their amazing GF bun. Seriously, where else can you get a GF cheeseburger for $5? Plus it’s the best tasting bun I have had on a gluten-free diet, so it’s a win all around!
But today, we are taking a look at Culver’s desserts because sometimes you want something a little sweet after your meal 🙂

Is Culver’s Custard Gluten Free?
As you probably know, gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye, and it can wreak havoc on the digestive systems of those with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity.
The good news is that Culver’s frozen custard (either vanilla or chocolate) is gluten-free! That means no wheat, barley, or rye in sight! But before you do a happy dance, let’s dig a little deeper. Because gluten lurks in the mix-ins. Let’s take a look at some of their gluten-free options.

Concrete Mixers
One of Culver’s most popular desserts are the concrete mixers. You can choose either chocolate or vanilla custard as the base and then pick up to two mix-ins to add. Like I said above both the vanilla and chocolate custard are gluten free, so pick your flavor and then 1-2 item from this gluten-free list. This list can also be found on the Culver’s allergen menu.
- Andes Mints
- Bananas
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Butterfinger Pieces (this was a surprise! I double checked, and it’s true!)
- Candy Sprinkles
- Cashews
- Chocolate Syrup
- Dove Chocolate
- Espresso Flavor
- Heath Bar Pieces
- Hot Caramel
- Hot Fudge
- M&M Minis
- Mango Fruit
- Maraschino Cherry
- Marshmallow Cream
- Mint Syrup
- Peaches
- Pecans
- Raspberries
- Reese’s Peanut Butter
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Rootbeer Syrup
- Salted Caramel
- Snicker’s Candy Bar
- Strawberries
- Whipped Cream
Shakes
Culver’s shakes are similar to the concert mixers but are blended rather than mixed. You can choose from the same list of add-ins (above) to create your shake.
Create Your Own Dish
Once again this is similar to Concrete Mixers and Shakes, but the frozen custard is scooped into a dish with your chosen add-ins sprinkled on top.

Sundae
In the mood for a sundae instead? You’re in luck! Culver’s has two gluten free sundaes – cashew sundae and turtle sundae.
The cashew sundae is made with vanilla frozen custard, cashews, caramel and a maraschino cherry.
The turtle sundae is made with vanilla frozen custard, hot caramel, hot fudge, pecans and a maraschino cherry.
Root Beer Floats
Have you ever tried Culver’s root beer? It is seriously amazing; I am not exactly sure what makes it so different than other root beers, but it is the best I have ever tried. So take amazing root beer and add in creamy frozen vanilla custard and you have a next-level root beer float that’s also gluten-free.
My Experience
It’s been around 110 F everyday in Phoenix this week, so this afternoon I stopped by Culver’s to check out their frozen custard selection first-hand. I ordered a dish of vanilla custard with strawberry topping and before I even found a place to sit down, my order was in my hand. Check out this little video – the custard was so creamy and delicious!
The Wrap Up
Go ahead and enjoy a delightful frozen treat at Culver’s by opting for one of their many gluten-free frozen custard dessert options. Because life is too short to deny yourself the simple pleasures of creamy, dreamy custard.
Just be mindful, take necessary precautions, and treat yourself to some gluten-free deliciousnes!

Happy snacking,
Rebekah
