Dripping in butter and garlic, boy do I miss those Olive Garden breadsticks! Even though Olive Garden does have gluten free pasta now, it’s just not the same without those addictingly delicious sticks of bread.
But let me tell you…these gluten free breadsticks revival the restaurant version and are so easy to make home (even if you’re a bread making newbie and any recipe with yeast makes you shake with fear). Trust me – you got this!

Is there Gluten in Breadsticks
Yes, breadsticks are generally made from wheat, so they definitely have gluten. There are a few brands that make frozen gluten free breadsticks, such as Schar and Green Giant.
But…
Unfortunately, frozen gf breadsticks aren’t easy to find in the grocery store. And when it comes to bread, homemade is usually better anyway. 🙂
Does Olive Garden Make GF Breadsticks?
While Olive Garden does have gluten free pasta now (win!), the breadsticks are sadly not gluten free.
How to Make Gluten Free Breadsticks

I love this recipe because it’s quick, really easy to make, and absolutely nothing beats warm bread drenched in garlic butter. I like to pair my bread with a bowl of gluten free pasta but you could serve with dipping sauce as well. And if you don’t like garlic, you could always top with melted cheese or other topping. Mmm…so many possibilities!
Directions:
Note: For all baking but especially gluten free, having the right amount of flour is so important! Investing in a cheap (less than $20) food scale makes baking so much easier and inedible mistakes few and far between.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper, lightly grease, and then set aside.
- Add the warm (not hot!) water to a small bowl and gently mix in the yeast and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes or until the yeast begins to froth and bubble.

- In a stand mixer or mixing bowl (if using a hand held mixer), combine the flour, egg, olive oil and apple cider vinegar.
- Use a stand or hand held mixer and mix for 2 minutes making sure to scrap the sides of the bowl periodically.
- The dough should be sticky and look like the picture below.

- Cut the corner off a sandwich bag and spoon the dough into the bag. Seal the bag.

- Pipe 6 breadsticks onto the prepared parchment paper.
- Let set in a warm location for 10 minutes or so. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Cook for 15 minutes. You can increase the oven temperature to 375 F in the last few minutes to get your breadsticks golden brown.
For the Garlic Butter Topping
- Stir together melted butter, Parmesan cheese, course salt, and Italian seasoning.
- As soon as the breadsticks are done, brush with the garlic butter topping and serve!
